~ As the spring season approaches, the city of Boston is gearing up for a series of exciting events that will bring together people from all walks of life. From road races to graduation ceremonies and parades, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
One event that is sure to draw a large crowd is the Girls on the Run Road Race, taking place on Saturday, May 30, 2026 in Beacon Hill. The race will kick off at 9:00 a.m. on Charles Street and continue south before turning onto Boylston Street and Arlington Street. Participants will then make their way onto Commonwealth Avenue before looping back to Charles Street for the finish line at the Center Gate.
To ensure smooth transportation for attendees, organizers are encouraging people to walk, bike or take public transit to the event. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, can be found on their website while information on the MBTA can be accessed online. The MBTA also advises riders to purchase round-trip tickets for a faster return trip.
In preparation for this event, parking restrictions will be in effect throughout Saturday in certain areas of Beacon Hill including both sides of Beacon Street from Charles Street to Spruce Street and the north side of Beacon Street (opposite the Public Garden) from Charles Street to Arlington Street.

Another highly anticipated event taking place in Longwood is Emmanuel College's Graduation Exercises on Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th. Due to this celebration, Avenue Louise Pasteur will have temporary parking restrictions as it will be reserved for spill over parking related to the event. Additionally, there will be a baccalaureate mass held by Archbishop of Boston Henning on Friday which will also require parking restrictions.
On Friday, parking restrictions will be in effect on Avenue Louis Pasteur between Fenway and Longwood Avenue (both sides). However, the actual circle at Longwood Avenue should not be posted.
The Haitian-American Unity Parade is another event that will bring the community together on Sunday, May 17th in Mattapan. The parade will begin at 1:00 p.m. with formation occurring on Blue Hill Avenue between River Street and Babson Street, as well as on Babson Street from Blue Hill Avenue to Fremont Street. The parade route will take participants down Blue Hill Avenue, right onto Westview Street and into Harambee Park before continuing onto Talbot Avenue.

To accommodate this event, parking restrictions will be in effect throughout Sunday on certain streets including the east side of Blue Hill Avenue from River Street (Mattapan Square) to Talbot Avenue and the east side of the island on Center Island from Babson Street to Freemont Street.
Lastly, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the Canterbury Street Bridge in Roslindale will be closing to vehicular traffic on Friday, September 12th at 9:00 p.m. This closure is due to findings from a recent bridge inspection and will remain closed until further notice. Pedestrian access will still be available but drivers are advised to follow detour signage in place. The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street.
Drivers traveling through these affected areas should expect delays and are reminded to reduce speed and use caution for everyone's safety.
