Boston: Five Things Small Business Owners Need to Know Ahead of the Summer of 2026
Rezul News/10731433
~ Boston, MA- The highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 26™ is set to take place from June 11 to July 19, with seven matches scheduled to be held at Gillette Stadium, which will be renamed Boston Stadium during the tournament. The matches will take place on June 13, June 16, June 19, June 23, June 26, June 29, and July 9.
Following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 26™, Boston will welcome the Tall Ships for Sail Boston®, a six-day event from July 11 to 16. This event coincides with America's semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) celebrations throughout the summer.
The city of Boston is expecting an influx of international tourists and increased economic activity during this time. To ensure that businesses are prepared and able to take advantage of these opportunities, the city has released guidelines and resources for their involvement.
One of the main ways in which the city is supporting businesses is through a brief survey that allows them to express their level of interest and how they can be assisted. Additionally, the Boston Licensing Board, Office of Nightlife Economy, and Office of Small Business are hosting bi-weekly Office Hours to provide assistance with planning related to the summer of 2026.

The Social Butterflies will also be curating a vendor experience called Boston Harbor Bites from July 11 to 15. This event will showcase the best of Boston's local food scene, artisan makers, and cultural entrepreneurs across various iconic waterfront locations in the city. Businesses interested in participating can learn more and apply to be a vendor.
For businesses that typically show sporting events on televisions, it is important to note that they can show any or all FIFA World Cup 26™ matches without a FIFA Public Viewing License. However, there are regulations regarding marketing and ticketing that must be followed. These regulations can be viewed by interested businesses.
Furthermore, businesses have the opportunity to optimize their business hours during key FIFA World Cup 26™ matches by opening earlier or requesting an extension of hours. The procedure for this can be viewed by interested parties.
The city of Boston is committed to supporting businesses as they prepare for the summer of 2026. Any questions or concerns can be directed to 617-635-4170 or licensingboard@boston.gov for assistance with extensions to business hours. With these resources and guidelines in place, Boston is ready to welcome the world for an exciting summer of sports and celebrations.
