Boston: Council Supports New Memorial Honoring Chinese American Veterans
Rezul News/10722328
~ The Boston City Council has officially adopted a resolution in support of the creation of a Chinese American Veterans Memorial at Auntie Kay & Uncle Frank Chin Park on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The proposal, put forth by American Legion Boston Chinatown Post 328, aims to honor the contributions and sacrifices of Chinese American veterans throughout the nation's history.
Post 328 has presented a comprehensive plan for the design, installation, and long-term maintenance of the memorial. This includes seeking both public and private funding, developing community-based sponsorships, and forming partnerships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and civic institutions. The proposal also outlines a long-term Conservancy and Stewardship Plan, which involves establishing a dedicated committee and collaborating with the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, MassDOT, and relevant city agencies. A maintenance fund will also be established to ensure ongoing care for the memorial.

The envisioned memorial is intended to be a living tribute that will be supported by annual programming such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, educational initiatives, youth engagement activities, commemorative events, and cultural heritage celebrations. These efforts aim to increase public awareness and understanding of the contributions made by Chinese American service members.
Auntie Kay & Uncle Frank Chin Park was chosen as the ideal location for the memorial due to its visibility, accessibility, landscaped setting, and central position within a well-loved urban greenspace that encourages public reflection and community engagement. The proposal has already garnered significant support from regional veterans' groups, Chinese American community associations, neighborhood organizations, business leaders, educators, and residents.
With this resolution adoption by the Council, it is clear that recognizing generations of Chinese American veterans is of great importance in strengthening Boston's cultural landscape. The Council also encourages continued collaboration among Post 328, the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, MassDOT,and relevant city agencies to move forward with the design, funding, and long-term stewardship of this meaningful memorial.
