Boston: Council Approved State Funding for Elder Lunch Program and Consumer Affairs

~ During the latest Council meeting, the City of Boston received approval to accept and utilize two state grants aimed at supporting nutrition services for older adults and consumer protection efforts. The first grant, totaling $2,315,966.88, was awarded by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs for the FY26 State Elder Lunch Program. This grant will be managed by the Boston Age Strong Commission and will provide funding for nutrition services for older adults within the city.

The approved funding will cover meals at a rate of $7.39 per meal, with a total of 313,392 meals expected to be provided. In addition to this grant, the Council also authorized the acceptance of $97,000 from the FY26 Local Consumer Aid Fund grant awarded by the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office. This grant will be administered by Boston Consumer Affairs and Licensing and will support staff costs, outreach materials, and operational expenses for the Consumer Affairs program.

These grants demonstrate the City of Boston's commitment to supporting its older adult population and ensuring consumer protection measures are in place. The funds will greatly benefit both programs and their respective initiatives.
