Bloomington Temporarily Renames Retention Pond in Spirit and Valiant Defense

Rezul News/10724969
~ Bloomington, known for its love of all things whimsical, has once again shown its ability to embrace the moment. Following a stellar performance by Indiana University's football team in the Peach Bowl and a viral social media conversation, a grassroots movement has emerged to rename the retention pond at Miller-Showers Park as "D'Angelo's Pond."

For the rest of this week, the City of Bloomington will officially recognize the pond with this honorary name as the community comes together to support the Hoosiers and look forward to the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Located in downtown Bloomington, Miller-Showers Park is already a symbol of sustainability, public art, and thoughtful design. Similar to a skilled cornerback on the field, this well-designed stormwater pond effectively contains and protects. It captures runoff, slows water during heavy rain, filters pollutants, and ultimately helps keep Bloomington's waterways and neighborhoods safe downstream.

Mayor Kerry Thomson expressed her excitement about this development stating, "This is peak Bloomington. It's playful, communal, and exactly what makes our city so special."

However, it should be noted that while this is an honorary and temporary name change, there will be no official changes made on maps or signs. The pond will continue to serve its purpose as a retention pond. Nevertheless, the positive vibes surrounding this event are sure to be long-lasting.

Residents and fans are encouraged to join in on the fun by sharing photos and posts on social media with good-natured cheer as Bloomington gears up for the highly anticipated game on January 19th.
