Bloomington Nonprofits Invited to Apply for 2026 Digital Opportunity Grants

Bloomington ~ Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington is taking steps to bridge the digital divide and increase digital resources for its residents through the Digital Opportunity Grants program. This program invites nonprofit organizations based in Bloomington to apply for funding to support their efforts in achieving digital equity.

The concept of digital opportunity refers to the fair distribution of internet access and modern technology throughout society. In an effort to promote this, the City is offering grants of up to $55,000 to eligible nonprofits. Applications will be accepted online at bloomington.in.gov/digital-opportunity from Tuesday, September 1st until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29th.

Since its inception in 2020, the Digital Opportunity Grant Program has awarded over $250,000 to local nonprofits. This funding has helped support various projects aimed at addressing digital opportunity challenges in the community.

To provide more information about the application process, an informational meeting will be held via Zoom on Thursday, September 3rd at 10 a.m. Interested applicants can access the meeting at bton.in/zm26.

The Digital Opportunity Grants program is seeking proposals from nonprofits that focus on building capacity within the community to address digital equity challenges. This includes facilitating access to affordable broadband services, increasing access to computing devices, and cultivating knowledge and skills needed for effective use of the internet and computers.

Additionally, proposals that aim to improve skills in using the internet safely and securely or address identified digital equity gaps in the community will also be considered. These initiatives should align with recommendations outlined in the city's Digital Equity Strategic Plan.

In 2025, fourteen Digital Equity Grants were awarded to local organizations and projects. Among these recipients were Monroe County Public Library which enhanced circulating iPads for homebound individuals and households without internet access; Binary Heart which donated more refurbished devices locally; Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington which provided digital safety training for youth ages 6-18; and My Sisters Closet of Monroe County which offered digital access and education to job-seeking women living in poverty.
