Dollar Tree's silence on hygiene complaint leads to public call for reform
WESTMINSTER, S.C. - Rezul -- A Basket of Boundaries: Shopper Walks Out of Dollar Tree Over Repeated Unsanitary Checkout Practices
Westminster, SC — November 3, 2025
At approximately 1:30 PM on Monday afternoon, a shopper at Dollar Tree, located at 907 E Main St, Westminster, SC 29693, made a silent but decisive protest. After filling a hand basket with goods—more than usual—the shopper approached the lone cashier, only to witness a disturbing gesture: the cashier licked her fingers to open plastic bags, then proceeded to handle another customer's items.
This was not the first time. On a prior visit, the same cashier had licked her fingers before handling the shopper's own groceries. A formal complaint was submitted to Dollar Tree's corporate office. No response was received. No corrective action was taken.
This time, the shopper didn't wait. While standing in line, watching the same unsanitary gesture unfold again, they placed the basket on a shelf and walked out.

In a post-pandemic world where hygiene should remain paramount, the sight of a retail worker applying saliva to her hands before touching groceries is despicable. During COVID-19, Dollar Tree enforced mask mandates and six-foot distancing. Now, with no warning or signage, customers are subjected to direct contact with another person's saliva—a blatant violation of public trust and basic sanitation.
"I didn't make a scene. I made a choice. That basket became a symbol of my refusal to participate in something I find unacceptable," the shopper stated. "If Dollar Tree corporate executives are reading this, I want you to know: this is not just about one store. It's about the erosion of dignity in everyday transactions."
This press release is a call to action.
The shopper remains anonymous, but the gesture speaks volumes. A basket refused. A threshold crossed. A demand for better.

- To Dollar Tree's leadership: Reinstate basic hygiene protocols. Train your staff. Respect your customers. Respond to complaints.
- To the public: You are not obligated to endure unsanitary practices. Your silence is not consent.
