Arizona Reclassifies Lane Splitting as Reckless Driving; Saguaro Injury Law Releases Rider Guide
Rezul News/10745869
HB 2941 makes lane splitting a class 2 criminal misdemeanor as of September 2026. Saguaro Injury Law's free guide covers the new penalties, when lane filtering remains legal, and what lane position can mean after a crash.
PHOENIX - Rezul -- PHOENIX, Ariz. — Motorcycle lane splitting is now reckless driving in Arizona. Saguaro Injury Law has released a free guide explaining the change and what it means for riders.
House Bill 2941, signed June 22, 2026 and effective as of mid-September 2026, reclassifies lane splitting — riding between lanes of moving traffic — as reckless driving, a class 2 criminal misdemeanor. A conviction can bring a court-ordered license surrender, a report to the Arizona Department of Transportation, and a suspension of driving privileges for up to 90 days. A repeat reckless driving conviction within 24 months rises to a class 1 misdemeanor with at least 20 days in jail and a one-year suspension.

Lane filtering, legalized in 2022, is unchanged: it remains legal only between fully stopped vehicles, on roads posted 45 mph or less with two or more adjacent lanes, at no more than 15 mph, and never on a freeway.
The firm's full guide covers the new penalties, the filtering conditions, and how lane position can factor into fault under Arizona's pure comparative fault system, which assigns fault in percentages based on the evidence. It is available free at https://saguaroinjurylaw.com/blog/arizona-new-lane-splitting-law-hb-2941.
Saguaro Injury Law is an Arizona personal injury law firm serving riders and drivers across the Phoenix metro. Free consultations are available 24/7, in English and Spanish: (602) 217-0000, https://saguaroinjurylaw.com.
