Applications open for Springfield Police Department motorcycle safety course

Springfield, Mo. ~ Springfield, Mo. - The Springfield Police Department Traffic Section is offering an opportunity for experienced riders to enhance their skills and make the roads safer for everyone. The Share the Road civilian motorcycle course is now open for applications, with the next course taking place on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

This one-day course is free of charge and aims to equip riders with advanced techniques and skills to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes. Participants will learn about motorcycle handling, object avoidance, and other important techniques that can make them better riders.

Interested individuals must submit an application by Thursday, June 12 at noon in order to be considered for the course. To be eligible, riders must have a valid motorcycle endorsement (not a permit) and own a motorcycle with a minimum engine size of 250cc. All motorcycles must also have legal exhaust and handlebars that meet safety standards.

In addition to these requirements, participants must have motorcycle insurance, a legal DOT approved helmet, eye protection, footwear that covers the ankles, and proper motorcycle attire. Optional equipment such as armored or padded gear is also recommended for added safety. A signed liability waiver is also necessary to participate in the course.

For those unable to attend the June 14 session, there will be additional course dates on Sept. 6 and Oct. 11 in 2025. Interested riders are encouraged to fill out an interest application for any of these dates.
