The proclamation reflects growing public recognition of Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day

REMINGTON, Va. - Rezul -- As Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day approaches on January 24, the State of Kentucky has issued a proclamation recognizing the annual awareness day and the importance of understanding facial differences.

The proclamation followed a community-led request from Megan Brown, a Kentucky resident who sought guidance from Many Faces of Moebius Syndrome (MFOMS), an international all-volunteer organization that supports individuals and families affected by Moebius syndrome. MFOMS provided information and resources to help ensure the request focused on awareness, inclusion, and respect.

Moebius syndrome is a rare neurological condition that affects the facial nerves, preventing individuals from smiling or showing facial expressions. While physical presentation can lead to misunderstanding, people with Moebius syndrome have typical intelligence, full emotional lives, and meaningful contributions to their families and communities.
