Squaawke releases memorial songs for Canadian woman who Homeland Security detained

"Sometimes the only thing that can bring justice to injustice is music"
POINT ROBERTS, Wash. - Rezul -- Point Roberts musician Craig Ellenwood, recording as Squaawke, has released a three-song memorial for Paige, a permanent resident of Point Roberts who died following a traumatic encounter at the US border on her 61st birthday.
The songs — The Tide, United, and Ten Black Wagons — were written and recorded in the 24 hours preceding her memorial service. Each track is registered on the Bitcoin blockchain via OpenTimestamps, creating a permanent, tamper-proof record of their creation and intent.
The Tide is an E minor fingerpicked meditation on transcendence, written from Paige's point of view. United, drawn from a song written in 1978 and reshaped across decades, is a community remembrance — the town holding her name. Ten Black Wagons is a surf punk reckoning with the arrival of ten CBP vehicles and the Border Patrol Commissioner at Point Roberts three days after Paige's death, with a film crew in tow.

"Sometimes the only thing that can bring justice to injustice is music," said Ellenwood. "Paige lived quietly. She crossed that border a thousand times. She was grilled on her birthday, missed her medications, and didn't survive it. That story deserves to be heard, and it deserves to last."
The music is available at point-roberts-paige.haawke.com and will remain there permanently. The cryptographic provenance certificates are publicly verifiable at verify.haawke.com.
Paige was a permanent US resident with a clean record. She was celebrating her 61st birthday in Canada when she was detained at the border, questioned at length, and denied the ability to leave. She subsequently missed critical medical appointments. She died shortly after.
Three days after her death, CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott arrived in Point Roberts with a convoy of vehicles and a film crew. He made no public statement about Paige.
The music doesn't forget. Neither should we.
