Peta Oakes: The Independent Author Behind Gaelic Mac Dubhdara
Rezul News/10743411
Researcher, mythologist, poet and independent author Peta Oakes has built a growing literary catalogue exploring the myths, civilisations, sacred traditions and enduring stories of the ancient world.
DARWIN, Australia - Rezul -- Writing under the pen name Gaelic Mac Dubhdara, Peta Oakes is an independent author and publisher whose work is driven by a lifelong fascination with mythology, ancient history, classical civilisation and the beliefs through which earlier cultures understood their world.
Her writing crosses comparative mythology, sacred cosmology, ancient religion, Celtic and Norse tradition, legendary history, poetry and, more recently, mythic science fiction. Rather than specialising in a single civilisation, Oakes follows ideas across cultures and time, exploring how gods, symbols, sacred landscapes, creation traditions and ancient stories evolved, travelled and survived.
Her growing catalogue includes the five-book Celestial Chronicles series and collections devoted to Ancient Worlds and Sacred Cosmologies, Celtic and Mythic Realms, and Powerful Female Rulers of Antiquity.

Recent releases demonstrate the breadth of that work. The Garden of Eden: Myth, Memory, and the Search for Paradise investigates Eden against the mythology, archaeology and cultural landscape of ancient Mesopotamia. Bandrúi: The Female Druids of the Celtic World explores the often-overlooked women of Celtic religious tradition, while Valkyries: Guardians of Valhalla, Divine Warriors of Odin, and Choosers of the Slain examines the complex supernatural women of Norse mythology.
Her latest novel, Elpis: One Tiny Light Remains, takes her work in a new direction, transforming the ancient Greek myth of Pandora and Elpis (Hope) into mythic science fiction and reimagining archetypes such as Zeus and Prometheus within a technologically advanced future.
Oakes' research has also taken her to Iraq and the landscapes of ancient Mesopotamia, with Egypt among the next destinations in her continuing exploration of the ancient world.

Behind every publication is an entirely independent creative process. Oakes researches and writes her books while also managing editing, proofreading, cover concepts and design, publishing, promotional artwork, book trailers, website development, advertising, marketing and public relations.
Being an independent author has therefore meant becoming much more than a writer. It has meant becoming researcher, author, publisher, designer and marketer, building each publication from the first idea through to the finished book and ultimately placing it into the hands of readers.
For Oakes, however, the purpose remains remarkably simple: to explore the ancient world, preserve its extraordinary stories and ideas, and make them accessible to a new generation of readers.
