SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Rezul -- Orangutan Caring Week returns November 8–14, 2026, inviting people around the world to reconnect with nature, discover the importance of the natural world, and take action to protect orangutans and their rainforest homes.

This year's theme, "Living in Harmony with Nature: Reconnecting to Save Species," recognizes that orangutans have much to teach us about living in balance with the world around us.

Orangutans are deeply connected to the forests they call home. Every tree, vine, fruit, insect, and animal is part of an intricate ecosystem that sustains countless species—including people. Yet as forests disappear and biodiversity declines, humans have become increasingly disconnected from the natural world.

If ever there was a time to care, that time is now.

That message is especially urgent as devastating fires continue to affect parts of Indonesia, threatening people, wildlife, and some of the world's most important orangutan habitats. In West Kalimantan alone, over 50 orangutans had been rescued from fire-affected areas between August and October, with many animals found in distress and poor health. Severe smoke from fires across Borneo and Sumatra has also created serious health concerns for both wildlife and local communities.

The fires provide a stark reminder of how closely connected people, wildlife, forests, and climate are—and how much there is at stake when those natural systems are disrupted.

When we reconnect with nature, we begin to appreciate it more deeply. When we appreciate it, we grow to care. And when we care, we are moved to protect it.

Throughout Orangutan Caring Week, Orangutan Caring invites organizations, zoos, educators, conservationists, volunteers, businesses, and individuals to find their own ways to participate. Activities might include educational programs, fundraisers, community events, workplace activities, social media campaigns, or simply sharing stories that inspire others to care.

Participants are also encouraged to share their Orangutan Caring Week activities and conservation messages so they can be amplified through the Orangutan Caring community.

"Orangutan Caring Week is about more than one species," says Holly Draluck, Orangutan Caring Week Event Coordinator. "It's about recognizing our connection to the natural world and understanding that protecting orangutans means protecting forests, biodiversity, and the future we all share. We can learn a lot from orangutans who live in complete harmony with the nature."
