New Idea Machine Launches Code Audit for AI-Built Apps

Three reports on security, architecture and modularity from a Calgary CTO, before owners launch.

CALGARY, Alberta - Rezul -- New Idea Machine has launched the Codebase Audit, a code audit for AI-built apps. It gives small business owners and founders who built an app with Lovable or another AI app builder a clear answer before launch: what to keep, what to fix first, and what can wait.

The service grows out of the reason New Idea Machine was founded in 2019: to help founders and small business owners launch and grow their businesses.

In two weeks this fall, three founders asked New Idea Machine what it would take to get their AI-built apps to market. One had already been told the app would have to be thrown away and rebuilt from scratch.

"AI made it easier than ever for founders to build an app. It didn't make it easier to know whether that app is ready for paying customers," said Rea Hailley, CEO and co-founder of New Idea Machine. "When founders and owners succeed, our economy grows with them. A Codebase Audit shows the owner of a vibe coded app how to build on what they have instead of paying to start over."

AL Del Degan, CTO and co-founder, leads every audit. He has 33 years building software. He uses AI to review the app's code, points it to where problems usually hide, and double-checks what it finds. The owner receives three reports:
  • Which security gaps to fix first, checked against the OWASP Top 10
  • Whether the app can handle more customers
  • How easily parts of the app can be changed later

Every finding comes with how to fix it, written so the owner's AI tool can make many of the fixes. Del Degan then meets with the owner for an hour to plan the next step.

The audit uses read-only access, so nothing in the app changes. It is a review against industry best practices, not a penetration test or a security certification.

New Idea Machine's live online Build your internal tools or prototype bootcamp teaches owners to build with AI using guardrails Del Degan wrote: instructions that tell the AI what it may and may not do. One owner had spent a year on his app, with the AI changing things he never asked for, and hundreds of dollars on AI credits. After the bootcamp, he uploaded the guardrails and got exactly what he wanted within an hour.
