New Graphic Novel Playing With Knives Captures the Chaos of the 1980s Underground Rave Scene
Rezul News/10734992
Artist and filmmaker Edwin Burdis reimagines his own life as a serial killer in a graphic novel set against the UK rave scene of the late '80s and early '90s
Rezul -- St. John's, Newfoundland — Black Panel Press will publish Playing With Knives: A Fictionalized Serial Killer Memoir by artist and filmmaker Edwin Burdis on October 13, 2026.
Set in and around Britain's underground rave scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Playing With Knives follows Mark Nutt, a man whose violent compulsions evolve from childhood into an escalating pattern of murder. Framed as the recorded testimony of a 106-year-old serial killer in the year 2080, the graphic novel moves through illegal warehouse parties, pirate radio, motorway hitchhiking, drugs, and music, capturing the fleeting freedom and chaos of a pre-digital subculture.
In this fictionalized autobiography, Burdis reimagines his own life as that of a serial killer, blending crime, memory, and subcultural history into a psychologically charged portrait of obsession, identity, and self-destruction.
