A Family Affair: Abernethy Laurels Hosts a Wedding with Heart

Rezul News/10706291
Wedding Blooms in Community Garden at Abernethy Laurels Retirement Community in Newton, NC.

NEWTON, N.C. - Rezul -- Newton, NC — When Scott Young began planning his wedding to Diane Smith, he knew he wanted something meaningful—something personal. Rather than choosing a traditional venue, Scott selected the community garden at Abernethy Laurels, the senior living community where his 92-year-old father, Charlie Young, resides.

Affectionately known as "Charming Charlie," Charlie Young has called Abernethy Laurels home since 2023. Beloved by team members and fellow residents, Charlie is known for his infectious smile, warm spirit, and signature charm. His presence has left a lasting impression not only on the community but also on his son, who has grown deeply connected to the place and its people.

On June 7, surrounded by friends, family, and residents, Scott and Diane exchanged vows in the very garden Scott helped nurture. The space, lovingly cared for by residents and volunteers, served as the backdrop for a celebration rooted in love, legacy, and a deep sense of community.

"This place is special," Scott shared, his voice full of warmth and pride. "I'm here two or three days a week. I know the people. I like the people. There's camaraderie, a real sense of belonging."

For Scott, the garden is more than just a picturesque setting. It represents cherished moments with his father, the kindness and connection of the Abernethy Laurels community, and the quiet beauty of relationships that grow with care and time.

Abernethy Laurels, a continuing care retirement community operated by EveryAge, was honored to host this unique and heartfelt celebration.
