DOULA CO-OP of Nevada Expands Hospital-Based Doula Support at Renown Following Successful Pilot Prog

Expanded Labor & Delivery Coverage Provides No-Cost Doula Support to Families During Birth
RENO, Nev. - Rezul -- DOULA CO-OP of Nevada (DCNV), in partnership with Renown Health, has expanded hospital-based doula support services within Renown's Labor & Delivery unit following the successful completion of a three-month pilot program that supported Northern Nevada birthing families between November 2025 and February 2026.
Following evaluation of the pilot program, the expanded Renown-DCNV Shift Program officially launched in April 2026 with six 10-hour doula shifts each week across both daytime and overnight coverage. Independent doulas contracted through DCNV now work alongside the Labor & Delivery team to provide continuous non-medical emotional, physical, and educational support to laboring mothers at no cost to patients.
The program is unique within the region and includes doula support for all birth experiences, including support during cesarean births within the operating room when permitted by the medical team. When mothers enter labor without strong support systems, desire additional labor support, are navigating high-risk circumstances, or come from underserved communities, doulas provide continuous reassurance, comfort support, positioning assistance, and education throughout labor and delivery while collaborating with nurses, physicians, and hospital staff.

"This partnership is helping make doula support more accessible to families across our community, regardless of insurance status or financial barriers, so more mothers can feel informed, supported, and cared for throughout labor and delivery," said Jennifer Campbell, Executive Director of DOULA CO-OP of Nevada.
"The pilot demonstrated the meaningful impact continuous doula support can have on the patient experience," said Lora Redmon, Director of Nursing – Women's Services at Renown Health. "Renown's labor and delivery program is nationally ranked, and the largest program in our area, which is why we are proud to expand this partnership to continue providing additional emotional and physical support resources to families delivering at Renown."
The program was designed to support birth experiences by encouraging evidence-based practices such as early skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding support, and continuous labor support. Research continues to demonstrate that skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding support can strengthen maternal-infant bonding, improve newborn stability, and support long-term breastfeeding success while contributing to positive maternal and infant health outcomes.

Participating doulas complete hospital onboarding, screening, and training requirements through the Renown-DCNV Shift Program prior to serving families within the hospital setting. Through this partnership, Renown and DCNV are working together to expand access to compassionate labor support for families throughout the Truckee Meadows region. http://www.doulacoop.org
