Darrayl Miles Breaks Down Unbreakable: "I Learned I'm Stronger Than My Cracks"

ORLANDO, Fla. - Rezul -- Darrayl Miles Breaks Down Unbreakable: "I Learned I'm Stronger Than My Cracks"
What inspired this project, and what does this album represent for you personally?
"Unbreakable was born out of a season where everything I thought was solid in my life cracked at the same time—career, relationships, even how I saw myself. I needed something that helped me sit with that pain, but not stay in it. This album is me learning how to breathe again, track by track. Personally, it represents the moment I stopped trying to be perfect and decided to be authentic instead. Authentically me, Authentically imperfect, and authentic now."
If you had to describe this album in one feeling or message, what would it be?
"One word: resilience. The message is, 'You're allowed to bend without breaking.' I wanted people to feel that quiet strength—you might be moving through heartbreak, anxiety, or uncertainty, but you're still here, still showing up, still worthy of love and rest."
You mentioned having to rebuild yourself—what did that journey look like for you? How did you come up with the name Unbreakable?
"The journey wasn't glamorous. It looked like early mornings where I didn't recognize myself, therapy sessions, drives with no music on, and nights where the only way I could process was to build beats until the sun came up. Little by little, I realized the things I survived hadn't destroyed me—they had revealed me.

"The name Unbreakable came from that realization. I kept writing 'I'm still here' in my journal. One day I wrote, 'I might be cracked, but I'm unbreakable,' and it just hit me—this is bigger than a song title, it's the whole project. And then my oldest daughter and I were discussing what I should name the album and she was the deciding vote. It came down to unbreakable or Modern Day Job and she convinced me the prior would land better with my audience."
Why did you choose lofi as the sound for this project?
"Lofi feels like breathing room to me. It's warm, it's imperfect, it lets in the small details—the crackle, the space, the swing—carry emotion in a way big that polished records sometimes can't. People with an ear for music will notice I'm off beat at times and that's ok with Lofi tracks.
"For Unbreakable, I wanted a sound that felt like late-night conversations, long drives, journaling on the couch, and reflection. Lofi gave me that intimacy. But… My lofi sound is different from what everyone is accustomed to. There's cinematic strings, unexpected 808's, trap snare rolls, and vocal chops all fused together for a unique experience."
