Walters Group Unveils New LEED-Certified Multifamily Development in Toms River
TOMS RIVER, N.J. - Sept. 21, 2017 - Rezul -- Walters Group held a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to officially open Cornerstone at Toms River, a 55-plus income restricted housing community offering 102 LEED-certified apartment units. State and local officials participated in the event, which was held at 2121 Massachusetts Ave.
Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency Chief Financial Officer John Murray, and Cornerstone at Toms River residents, Walters Group employees and guests attended the celebration.
"We are really proud of this community and the fact that we can produce housing for people that need it the most," said Joe DelDuca, Walters Group partner and general counsel. "We wanted to provide a place where residents are proud to call home. And we are going to do our best to make sure that they have many healthy and happy years living here."
"This is a beautiful place, and the agency is proud to be helping a community like Toms River," said Murray of the NJHMFA. "We've done over 68 multifamily communities with Sandy money since the storm, and there have been thousands of units that we've brought back to life in areas that were devastated by the storm."
As part of the ribbon-cutting celebration, Walters Group dedicated the courtyard to the memory of Ron Goetz, a Walters Group employee who was an integral member of the Walters Group, managing all of their site work operations. Goetz' wife, Jaclyn, and two daughters, Colleen and Sherry, attended the event and accepted a plaque in his honor.

Cornerstone at Toms River represents the highest quality income-restricted housing available on the market. It is designed to achieve LEED® and ENERGY STAR® status for incorporating a number of sustainable features. The community's green building attributes include non-invasive landscaping, the use of recycled materials during construction and its close proximity to local retailers. In addition, Energy Star appliances will help residents with long-term reductions in utility costs.
Cornerstone at Toms River was designed with the comfort of its senior residents in mind. Community and apartment features include spacious one- and two-bedroom floorplans, two large and inviting community rooms, controlled access entrances and upgraded interior finishes. Residents also have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center, Bocce court and barbecue area. The buildings' management offers a number of amenities that will foster a greater sense of community among residents such as planned activities and health and wellness seminars.
"This community is going to enhance the lives of all the people living in these lovely surroundings. It's rewarding to see this progress in our town," said Mayor Kelaher.
"I love everything about living here," said Marcella Butterly, a resident who relocated here in July from Brick into a one-bedroom apartment. "It's wonderful to have a house if you have kids but I'm past that. It's a different kind of community living here – very relaxing. I've met a lot of people and the management is wonderful."
