Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Infectious Diseases

BOSTON - Rezul -- The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) is inviting applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID), the Society's flagship scientific journal. The appointment will begin July 1, 2026, with a transition period, and full leadership of the journal is expected by October 1, 2026.

The International Journal of Infectious Diseases is a leading peer-reviewed, open-access publication dedicated to advancing research and knowledge in infectious diseases. With a 2024 Impact Factor of 4.3, the journal ranks in the first quartile (Q1) of infectious diseases journals and has established a strong global reputation for publishing high-quality scientific research.

Published monthly by the International Society for Infectious Diseases, IJID disseminates critical findings related to the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and control of infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on diseases affecting under-resourced regions of the world.

The journal publishes a broad range of research including:

• Original clinical and laboratory-based research
• Clinical trial reports
• Review articles
• Selected case reports

Through its global network of authors, reviewers, and editors, IJID plays an important role in supporting the international infectious disease community and promoting scientific exchange across regions and disciplines.

Application Process

Applications for the Editor-in-Chief position must be submitted by April 20, 2026.

Virtual interviews will be conducted May 12–14, 2026. The selected Editor-in-Chief will begin reviewing new manuscripts alongside the editorial team starting July 1, 2026, with the full transition into the role expected by October 1, 2026.

The Editor-in-Chief will guide IJID's editorial strategy over the next five to ten years, working closely with the journal's editorial board, ISID leadership, and the publisher.

Candidates should demonstrate:

• A strong record of research and publication in infectious diseases
• A clear strategic vision for the future growth of the journal
• Understanding of the economics and landscape of open-access publishing
• Commitment to collaborative leadership, working with ISID and editors of sister journals (IJID Regions and IJID One Health)
• Commitment to excellence in peer review and diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Significant editorial experience in academic publishing

Applicants should submit:

• A full Curriculum Vitae (CV) in PDF format
• A two-page letter outlining their vision and goals for IJID (2026–2031)
