BBBSC Celebrates Colorado Gives Day Impact
Rezul News/10721818
DENVER - Rezul -- With Colorado Gives Day arriving soon, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado (BBBSC) is preparing for the state's largest day of generosity by highlighting the growing need for youth mentoring across the Denver Metro and Pikes Peak regions. Over the past year, BBBSC supported 1,660 young people through one-to-one mentoring, school-based programs, and post-secondary readiness initiatives driven by community partnership.
While BBBSC continues to reach more youth each year, nearly 300 young people, primarily boys, are still waiting to be matched with mentors who can offer steady encouragement and connection. Colorado Gives Day provides an opportunity to help extend access to programs that support youth at school, at home, and as they plan for what's next.
Many participating youth face complex challenges. BBBSC's FY25 Annual Report shows that 70% live in single-parent households, 41% rely on income assistance, and 15% have a parent who is incarcerated. When paired with a mentor, however, consistent support is linked to improved confidence, stronger decision-making, and clearer future plans.

In 2025, BBBSC mentors contributed 46,416 volunteer hours statewide. As a result, 81% of mentored youth report greater confidence, and participants are 20% more likely to graduate high school and pursue college. Another 765 students built leadership and decision-making skills through school-based mentoring, while Big Futures helped teens create clear post-secondary plans for college, trades, military, or the workforce.
"As Colorado Gives Day approaches, we're entering one of the most meaningful weeks of the year for our organization," said Elycia Cook, President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado. "This moment isn't just about one day of giving, it's about a shared commitment to making sure young people have steady support, trusted relationships, and what's possible for their future."
Colorado Gives Day donations directly strengthen BBBSC's Community-Based 1:1 Mentoring, School-Based Mentoring through STARS and Project AIM, and Big Futures, the organization's wraparound college and career readiness initiative. Together, these programs help ensure youth receive guidance across multiple stages of development.

All eligible gifts also qualify for the Colorado Child Care Contribution Tax Credit, allowing many donors to receive 50% of their contribution back on state taxes, effectively stretching the reach of each donation.
