CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. & PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Rezul -- Anne Seidman: Within the Lines
January 23 – March 22, 2026

Opening Reception - January 23, 4-7 PM

Object Culture
is pleased to present Within the Lines, an exhibition of recent work by Anne Seidman, on view from January 23 through March 22, 2026. The exhibition features large colored-pencil drawings on paper alongside smaller paintings executed in water-based media on panel. Across these works, Seidman continues her sustained investigation into structure, rhythm, and the expressive potential of constraint—using line, color, and interval to construct compositions that reward close and sustained looking.

Seidman's drawings unfold through layered accumulations of hand-drawn lines and subtly modulated color fields, producing shifting grids and measured pauses that feel both rigorous and intuitive. The scale of these works allows her linear language to fully assert itself, while her smaller paintings translate this vocabulary into a more tactile material register. Working on panel, she introduces density and surface nuance while preserving the clarity and restraint that define her practice.

About Anne Seidman

Anne Seidman
(b. 1950) is a contemporary abstract artist based in Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Her practice spans drawing, painting, and early digital media, with current work centered on large colored-pencil drawings and smaller paintings executed in water-based media on panel. In the mid-1980s, Seidman was among the early adopters of computer-generated art, producing animations and plotter-printer drawings using IBM and Amiga systems. Her digital works were exhibited at the 42nd Venice Biennale and SIGGRAPH in 1986, and she later expanded this research while teaching at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. Seidman holds degrees from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, and Ohio State University, and has received numerous honors, including a Philadelphia Museum of Art Purchase Award, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, and a Pew Fellowship in the Arts.
