Lineus Medical Receives Innovative Technology Contract from Vizient for SafeBreak® Vascular
Rezul News/10577943
Contract awarded for products that bring improvement to health care industry
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Rezul -- Lineus Medical announced its SafeBreak® Vascular has received an Innovative Technology contract from Vizient, Inc. the nation's largest member-driven health care performance improvement company. The contract was awarded based on the recommendation of SafeBreak Vascular by hospital experts who serve on one of Vizient's member-led councils, and it signifies to Vizient members unique qualities that potentially bring improvement to the health care industry.
Innovative Technology contracts are recommended after review and interaction with products submitted through Vizient's Innovative Technology Program. Vizient member-led councils identify technologies that have the potential to enhance clinical care, patient safety, health care worker safety or improve business operations of health care organizations.
SafeBreak Vascular is the first of its kind Force-Activated Separation Device (FASD) on the market. SafeBreak is installed in the patient's IV line and separates when a harmful force is placed on an IV line, protecting the IV catheter. When it separates, valves on each side close to prevent the loss of blood and medication. In a large randomized controlled trial, SafeBreak reduced IV complications requiring an IV restart by 44%1. SafeBreak is the first FASD on the market to utilize this innovative approach of intentionally being the weak link in the IV line, giving clinicians the ability to address a long felt problem with a novel solution.

"We're thrilled to receive this Innovative Technology contract offering Vizient members easier access to SafeBreak Vascular and view this as further validation of the way it addresses the persistent problem of IV complications," said Vance Clement, CEO of Lineus Medical. "We believe integrating SafeBreak into clinical practice is a critical step towards Force-Activated Separation Devices becoming the standard of care for IV therapy," said Spencer Jones, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Lineus Medical.
"Our member councils reviewed and determined SafeBreak Vascular should be recognized with an Innovative Technology contract based on its potential to make an incremental difference in health care," said Kelly Flaharty, director of contract process for Vizient. "Congratulations to Lineus Medical on receiving this contract status."
Vizient represents a diverse membership base that includes academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks and non-acute health care providers and represents more than $100 billion in annual purchasing volume. Through its Innovative Technology Program, Vizient works with member-led councils and task forces to evaluate products for their potential to bring real innovation to health care. Vizient may award a contract to products deemed worthy of the Innovative Technology designation outside of the competitive bid cycle.
